Laughing Gas is:
- A safe way to relieve anxiety and pain during dental treatments and procedures
If you are considering laughing gas for your next dental procedure, it is essential to contact your dentist and discuss your past medical history. We suggest you bring a detailed list of any medical history, medications, and nutritional supplements you may be taking along with you to your consultation.
How is Laughing Gas Used?
There are a couple of ways for laughing gas to be used. The most common ways offered are oral and IV administration. Patients who desire oral administration are given a nasal hood that fits over the nose. Two tubes are connected to one oxygen canister and one laughing gas canister. Once you start to display signs of sedation, your dentist will start your dental procedure.
In the first couple of breaths, you will start to feel relaxed. During the sedation process, you may experience being light-headed and also having sudden emotions. Some patients also go through uncontrollable giggling as a common side effect.
This type of sedation does not last long meaning, the effects only last for as long as you breathe in through the mask.
